Resorts & Mountains > Jay Peak
A couple more Vermont ski resorts closed this weekend, but not before skiers and riders hit the slopes for springtime fun under the sun.
Here are a few shots from this weekend that we found on Facebook.
You can still catch a lift this week at Jay Peak, Killington and Sugarbush in Vermont.

Had a great spring skiing day at Jay Peak today. The snow was soft and plentiful, and the weather turned out to be much better than predicted! We enjoyed a mix of sun, snowflakes and clouds.
We skied in the glades as much as possible and we weren't disappointed. There was plenty of snow and bumps, and much fewer people to avoid than on the trails. Jay has a broad selection of tree runs — from Timbuktu off the Jet Triple Chair all the way to Beaver...[Read more]

Investments were mostly steered toward snowmaking, trails and facilities at Vermont ski resorts for the 2012 - 2013 ski season. Here's a look at on-mountain investments that you'll see this season.

When are Vermont ski resorts opening? Ski Vermont has released a list of the tentative opening dates for Vermont ski resorts. Remember that during early season there are often a select few trails open to start; check to see which trails and what ability level they are.

It’s mid-August and the summer in Vermont has been mighty fine, but many a skier and rider are already thinking about where they will ski this winter. Season passes are just one of the ways you can save some dough on the Vermont slopes. But, you have to estimate how many days you will ski at a resort to see if the math works out to your advantage.
Frequent skier cards, Vermonter lift ticket discounts, and a variety of special event ticket deals are also options, and we...[Read more]

It’s veggie time in the mountains of Vermont! Vermont's ski towns are among those that have weekly farmers' markets when the snow is not flying.
The Vermont Agency of Agriculture produces a handy website that has a statewide schedule of many farmers’ markets. The list includes these markets which I selected because they are located somewhere near a Vermont ski resort or ski town that you may be visiting during the summer months:

Some Vermont ski resorts are reporting 1 to 3 inches of new snow fell overnight on the upper portions of their mountains. The weather forecast shows some potential snow showers over the weekend, as well. In the towns and lower elevations, some rain has been falling. Such a weird winter.

Ski resorts in the northern and central parts of Vermont picked up another round of unexpectedly high snowfall yesterday. Depending on location, it was on the order of 6 to 12 inches of snow! (Check the snow reports on our Vermont Ski Resorts page for details.)

This time of year can really try a skier's patience. Temperatures rise and fall. Rain can sneek in, rather than snow. And sometimes we can get a blizzard. You just never know.
As we turned our calendars to December this week, some colder temperatures returned to the region — thankfully — after a warm spell. Snowmaking guns and fans could be heard at several of Vermont's ski resorts. Small armies of snowmakers were painting the ski trails white.

This Thanksgiving we're thankful for some fresh snow falling in Vermont! Some higher elevations and ski areas are reporting 6 to 10 inches of new snow so far this morning. The amount depends on location. A wide central swath of the state seems to have picked up a good snowfall.

Last week we were in the midst of a freak spring snowstorm, while the last few days have been warm — almost too warm as we hit around 80 degrees. Things are looking very green in northern Vermont. And purple and pink and yellow and white, depending on what tree or bush is in the vicinity. Even the mountains which looked frosty white last week are now taking on their springlike appearance.
Yet, a look at the official snow stake on the top of Mt. Mansfield illustrates that there is still a lot...[Read more]

Here's a peek at what things looked like at higher elevations today in northern Vermont. I messed around on the Bryant and World Cup trails on Bolton Valley's nordic system this afternoon. Yesterday's freak spring storm and today's bright sunshine made this a must-do exercise.
I'd say there was at least 14 inches in these shaded trails, which are located at about 2,100 feet. The snow was heavy, so what I did it was more like a snowshoe walk than a ski. But it was so nice being outside where I...[Read more]

When I got out of my car, the wind whipped through the parking lot and I decided it would be prudent to throw on an extra layer. This layer would come in handy on the Green Mountain Flyer, which always seems to be blasted with wind at the top.
