On Bolton Valley's backcountry skiing trails.

On Bolton Valley's backcountry skiing trails. What a way to start the ski season. The Skimeister and I went up to Bolton Valley's backcountry trails today and found more than a foot of fluffy snow on the trails and weighing down the tree branches all around us. Gorgeous!

This is what skiing is all about. I love gliding quietly through the woods surrounded by snow. Skiing to a viewpoint is even better, but today the "Stowe View" was non-existent because of a snow squall. Not a problem, we said, before schussing on.

I'm still not great at the downhills when my heel is free, but I enjoy pointing my ski tips into the powder to slow me down so I can try to make shallow tele turns. We even went down Devil's Drop and I got a couple of good turns in at the bottom before bumping into the buried branches of an evergreen tree. Not a problem, I said again, as I wallowed in the snow with a big grin on my face.

Bolton Valley Resort was having a big day, with lots of cars in the parking lots. We selected the right activity for the day because while I'm sure lines were forming at the lifts, we only passed one other skier in our three hours out on the backcountry trails. Sweet. And definitely not a problem.
