November skiing on the road through Smugglers' Notch, Vermont.

Cross-country skiing

Our first time on skis this season!

Mount Mansfield

A very snowy Mount Mansfield.

The Skimeister and I got in our first ski of the year by cross-country skiing on the road that goes through Smugglers' Notch! This section of Route 108 is closed now because they don't plow it, and to our surprise it had actually been recently groomed! People were doing classic and skate skiing and enjoying what turned out to be a very sunny day.

Some of the trees still had some snow on them, and to the sides of the road there were about five inches of light, fresh snow. It was like we had been immediately transported into winter!

What a great way to spend a lunch hour!

The word in town was that Mt. Mansfield has a lot of snow but someone remarked at how tracked out it was. Lots of people have been hiking for turns. The snow at the stake is reported at a remarkable 21 inches today.
