Holy powder, Batman!

This morning I came across some northern Vermont snow reports touting between 4 and 12 inches of new snow overnight. I looked outside my window and only saw 1 or 2 inches and I had to double check what I read. It became clear to me: I needed to go investigate this news by earning some turns!

After lunchtime I skinned up into the Bolton Valley backcountry trail network and noticed everything was whiter and the trail seemed higher than the last time I was here (more base!). I started poking my poles into the snow to the side of the packed ascent route and got excited. It was fluffy snow and there was a lot of it!

After taking off my skins I began to glide downhill and start to laugh. The snow was quite deep -- if I didn't have momentum it would stop me dead in my tracks as the powder piled up to my knees. What a nice overnight gift of eight or so inches of fresh pow, on top of an abundance of other recent snowfall!

I was dropping my knee into the powder and doing lazy turns down through the glades. Holy powder, Batman!
