January 10 brings fun nordic events to Vermont ski country

Freebies don't come along every day, so this is one to take advantage of this weekend.

Several Vermont nordic centers are offering free or discounted trail passes, cross-country skiing lessons and ski or snowshoe rentals on Saturday, January 10. Check out the <link http: www.wintertrails.org external-link-new-window trails web>Winter Trails site for a list of participating resorts, which include places like Ole's, Woodstock, Blueberry Hill and Sleepy Hollow cross-country centers.

You may want to call first to confirm the details, and download the release form and bring it with you to save time at the cross-country center.January 10 brings fun nordic events to Vermont ski country

Also on Saturday, I've signed up for the Catamount Trail Association Ladies Nordic Expo. It's being held at Trapp Family Lodge and preregistration is required. I'll be getting some coaching on my classic, skating and telemark skiing technique—even with video analysis (yikes!). Lunch is included in the $50 fee.

Visit the <link http: www.catamounttrail.org external-link-new-window trail association web>Catamount Trail Association Web site for details and to register. The event is limited to 100 women.

Also check out other CTA events, such as the Get Out and Backcountry Ski Festival on January 25 at Bolton Valley Resort.

I'm really looking forward to a nordic-filled weekend!

Thank goodness the snow is back!

Thanks to a rather long-duration storm, some of Vermont's higher elevations saw 2 feet of snow through Monday. This was a very welcome development! The first wave of snow was heavy and wet, while the…
