A snowstorm welcomes the snowiest month in Vermont

How many ways do you know how to say "snow"?

Perhaps la neige (French)?

la neve (Italian)

śnieg (Polish)

der Schnee (German)

снег (Russian)

sněhu (Czech)

la nieve (Spanish & Portuguese)

雪 名 (Japanese)

muruaneq (Yup'ik Eskimo - Specifically soft, deep fallen snow on the ground)

Or how about pow-pow (American skier dialect)?

Any way you say it, we are currently getting slammed with it in Vermont this weekend! Here's what the NWS had to say this afternoon:

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
3:52PM EST SAT JAN 2 2010
...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON CONTINUES THE WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW ACROSS NORTHERN NEW YORK AND
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL VERMONT...UNTIL 7 AM EST MONDAY.

SNOWFALL TOTALS BY MONDAY MORNING WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 8
TO 14 INCH RANGE...BUT 12 TO 18 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED
ALONG WEST-NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES OF THE NORTHERN GREEN
MOUNTAINS.

 ...

Interestingly enough, this snowstorm is welcoming us into Vermont's snowiest month.

This NOAA site gives the median snowfall for each month for several sites in Vermont. It shows that in most places, January is the month with the most snowfall in the state.

So we are getting off on the right foot, and we should have a lot more to look forward to!

Depending on my work projects and the road conditions, I plan to ski tomorrow or Monday. Can't wait!
