All of Vail Resorts' North American ski resorts will close from March 15 - 22. This includes Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow in Vermont.
The announcement came on Saturday evening, March 14. The company says it wants to help tamp down the coronavirus risk for its employees, guests and the communities where their resorts are located. The company will reassess the situation during the week.

Vail Resorts announced today its plans to purchase Peak Resorts, a group of 17 ski areas that includes Mount Snow in southern Vermont.

Thanks to cold weather moving in to the area, snowmakers have been busy and will be working hard through the week.
Killington has announced it will start spinning its lifts on Wednesday, November 8, for passholders. Killington will open on Thursday, November 9, for the public for the 2017 - 2018 ski season.
Mount Snow announced it will open on Saturday, November 11.
Okemo will open on Saturday, as well.

Snowmaking, lifts, grooming machines and more. Here's a look at on-mountain improvements at Vermont ski resorts for this winter.
Bolton Valley
Bolton Valley is upgrading its snowmaking system. The pumps at the Timberline pump house will be balanced, allowing for more water to be pushed uphill more quickly. The resort is also adding to its gun and hose inventory. These two upgrades will allow the resort to blow snow in multiple locations at the same time.

Anyone who reads this blog understands by now that we like to do “après.” Après-ski snacks and beverages are extra tasty after a cold day on the snow. Plus, you can do après and still get to bed at a reasonable hour. Bonus!

It's been a rough start to the ski season. Abnormally high temperatures have made snowmaking difficult to sustain. Vermont's larger and higher-altitude resorts made snow early on and have worked diligently to retain and expand coverage. We enjoyed some spring-like skiing at Smugglers' Notch over a week ago, for example.

Well, elevation means everything this week in Vermont. While many towns and villages and base lodge areas have seen rain and sleet, there's been a mix of snow, sleet and rain up higher on the mountains.

Vermont has experienced summer-like temperatures over the last week. We've been wearing shorts and t-shirts. The sun has shone brightly as well, and while this makes for lovely weather to recreate in, it hasn't been kind to the snow.

One to seven inches of snow fell around the state on Wednesday night to help make things look a bit more wintry in Vermont. Today and tonight some areas will see snow showers.

I flew in over a frosty-topped Camel's Hump yesterday afternoon after a trip out of town. I soon heard that the forecast calls for a winter storm tonight into Wednesday! After a snowy winter and wet spring, we are enjoying farmers’ market season in Vermont! At recent markets that I went to I saw lots of leafy vegetables, tomatoes, beans, peas, beets and more. Can’t wait until the sweet corn is out, too!

Oh, you lucky, lucky Mount Snow skiers!
You get to fuel up on my favorite coffee any day of the week — slopeside!
Mount Snow and Vermont Coffee Company announced they have opened a café at the ski resort. Vermont Coffee is roasted in Middlebury, Vermont, and the Skimaven ski blog is basically powered by their yummy Dark Roast.
Not only does the coffee taste delicious, but it's fair trade and organic. I know — almost too good to be true!

Happy Election Day! After you vote, you can head over to Killington to get some runs in the North Ridge area of the upper mountain.
The K-1 Gondola provides uploading and downloading, while access back to the top of the K-1 Gondola from the North Ridge area will be via a 5- to 10-minute walk on the new Peak Walkway. And remember, there's no novice terrain open.

Vermont's ski season is winding down -- way down -- this week. Here's an idea of which Vermont ski resorts are open, which have closed, and when the others are expected to close. To skim, or not to skim. That is the question.
Well if you're game, you have a good selection of pond skimming contests at Vermont ski resorts to choose from. Here are a few to consider watching, or participating in, below.
