The volunteers who run these fundraising events have gone back to the drawing board to figure out how to offer them safely. Some have considered virtual swaps or outdoor sales, while others are canceling altogether.

It starts with the changing leaves. The color shows itself slowly at first. And then, before you know it, the leaves are gone and we’re celebrating the first fresh snowflakes of the season.
Fall in Vermont also brings ski swaps. And quite a few of them, too. We compile a list every year so you can plan accordingly. Do you have ski or snowboard gear to sell? Or do you need a few pieces of gear for the family?...[Read more]

The air is turning chilly so that means it must be ski swap time in Vermont!
The SkiMeister and I have got a couple of pieces of gear to swap — how about you? Start thinking about what “Junior” has out-grown and what you'd like to add to your own skiing and boarding quiver. An extra pair of alpine skis? Or maybe some backcountry gear this year? Do some research on what gear is appropriate for the things...[Read more]

Are you suddenly realizing that junior's feet are now two sizes bigger than last year? Or that you'd really like to try telemark skiing this season? Well good thing there are a few more ski swaps this month, including those in Richmond, Cambridge, Ludlow and Waitsfield.
Each year we compile a list of Vermont ski swaps (it's so handy having the info all in one place) and you can see the 2010 list by following this link.

Killington will be running its lifts again on Wednesday. If temperatures move out of Indian Summer and back into early winter in a timely manner, they hope to open again for the weekend.
Several Vermont ski resorts are poised to resume snowmaking as soon as possible. Some have targeted opening dates of November 21.
Don't forget the Waitsfield Ski Swap this weekend. Details are found in my list of Vermont ski swaps. I hear American Flatbread will be at the swap serving up slices of pizza.[Read more]

Good news: Some Vermont ski resorts are firing up their snowmaking systems as temperatures drop again. On Jay Peak, for example, the weather service says it will get down to around 20 degrees (F) each night this week. Brrrrr. Sounds like perfect weather for making snow.
Here are a few events in northern Vermont in the next two weeks that can help get you in the mood for early-season skiing.
The Cochran's ski swap is this weekend and the Waitsfield ski swap is the following weekend. My...[Read more]

Yes, it's getting cool outside. I'm getting antsy, too.
Now's the time to plan your attack on Vermont ski swaps. What gear are you going to unload? What gear do you want to buy?
Well I can't exactly help you with those questions, but at least I can keep you up to date on the fall 2009 Vermont ski swap calendar. I'm adding dates & details as they are made available.

I don't know about you, but I'm looking for some ski gear before the snow flies this year. For one, I want to pick up some plastic telemark boots so I can really have more turning capability on my descents in the woods.
I'm going to check out a couple of Vermont ski swaps to see if I can score some equipment that fits me. I was successful two years ago when I found some new, unwrapped Karhu Pavo skis...so who knows what I...[Read more]
