On Saturday evening, after Vail Resorts' announcement, Alterra Mountain Company said it will stop spinning the lifts at their many properties. Starting immediately, Stratton and Sugarbush ski resorts in Vermont will be closed until further notice.
These Vermont ski areas join others in closing due the the coronavirus threat.
All of Vail Resorts' North American ski resorts will close from March 15 - 22. This includes Stowe, Okemo and Mount Snow in Vermont.

Snowmaking, lifts, grooming machines and more. Here's a look at on-mountain improvements at Vermont ski resorts for this winter.
Bolton Valley
Bolton Valley is upgrading its snowmaking system. The pumps at the Timberline pump house will be balanced, allowing for more water to be pushed uphill more quickly. The resort is also adding to its gun and hose inventory. These two upgrades will allow the resort to blow snow in multiple locations at the same time.

The National Weather Services is reporting up to 3.5 inches of snow on Vermont's high peaks! They say snow was confined to above 3,000 feet of elevation or so.

Vermont has experienced summer-like temperatures over the last week. We've been wearing shorts and t-shirts. The sun has shone brightly as well, and while this makes for lovely weather to recreate in, it hasn't been kind to the snow.

What a nice, sunny weekend. And it featured some first-of-the-season happenings today:
Stratton opened for the season Smugglers’ Notch opened for the season I got my first turns of the season today!
While it was a windy day, and lift holds were apparently an issue at Sugarbush, I was able to get some morning runs in at Smugglers’ Notch for the first time this ski season!

I flew in over a frosty-topped Camel's Hump yesterday afternoon after a trip out of town. I soon heard that the forecast calls for a winter storm tonight into Wednesday! Stratton ski resort in southern Vermont will host the four-day U.S. Freestyle Championships in March. This is of particular interest to Vermonters, as it will include mogul maven Hannah Kearney of Norwich, Vermont — a gold medal winner in Vancouver.

Vermont's ski season is winding down -- way down -- this week. Here's an idea of which Vermont ski resorts are open, which have closed, and when the others are expected to close. After some wet weather (and some snow at higher elevations) we are heading into a really warm and sunny stretch of weather in Vermont. In the coming days you'll want to ski in the morning because it will get very warm, and slushy, by afternoon. Oh, and wear your sunscreen. You'll need it.

Vermont ski resorts are reporting a couple of inches of new snow this morning — with the snow continuing today in many places.
At the stake at the top of Mt. Mansfield yesterday afternoon, there was a total of 26 inches of snow. I'd expect that there are a couple more inches this morning.

Mother Nature is not ready to let go of winter yet here in Vermont. On Saturday night and Sunday morning, northern and central Vermont ski resorts reported about 7 inches of new snow. For some resorts, such as Bolton Valley, this snow came in time for their final day of operation for this ski season.

'Twas the day before Thanksgiving, and all through the house, people were looking for their winter gear, and starting to grouse.
