Fresh, light powder + tasty turns earned on Saturday

— Backcountry skiing, Fall & early season

What a difference a day can make. This morning it's raining thanks to a wild weather roller coaster ride. (The roller coaster plummets later today so this wetness will freeze up.) But Saturday — oh boy — that was a different story.

The Skimeister and I waited for Saturday's snow to pile up a bit before heading out to earn turns in the powder. At midday we climbed up to about 3,000 feet in the Bolton backcountry trail network. It was stunningly gorgeous. Up high the trees bowed their snow-capped heads to us as we passed by. Then we played in powder stashes as we descended.

I had wider skis on with more sidecut than usual and holy cow did that make turning so much fun! This tele gear felt heavier as I skinned up, but I guess that's the trade-off! We skied cautiously because there were stumps, branches and rocks hidden under the snow, and stream beds were not filled in yet.

Where did you find fluffy powder on Saturday? Let us know below, or on <link https: www.facebook.com skimaven external-link-new-window external link in new>Facebook!
