New snow in Vermont mountains; Down to two ski resorts tomorrow

Pond skimming at Killington

We're taking bets. First, which Vermont ski resort will claim the title for staying open the latest this ski season: Jay Peak or Killington?

Second, will the number of Vermont skier visits hit the 4 million mark? Some say yes in this <link http: bit.ly avb429 external-link-new-window skier visits>article in the Rutland Herald. Pond skimming at Killington

And third, some of Vermont's mountain peaks — and some towns — have seen a couple of inches of snow this weekend; will this be our final snow of the season?

Killington held a pond skimming contest yesterday while snow was falling and temperatures were rather cool. Forty skiers and riders tried to cross a cold pond at Jay Peak, as well. Not the kind of weather that you might expect at this time of year.

Tomorrow we'll lose one of our three open ski resorts as today is the last day of operation for Sugarbush.

And then there were two.

Thank goodness the snow is back!
