2008-2009 Season Deals

I've compiled a list of Vermont ski ticket discounts. That's right, these are some of the best skiing deals for you Vermonters and flatlanders. Here in Vermont, we have to get something for suffering through lower-than-average paychecks and higher-than-average housing prices!

Some of these deals require that you show proof of Vermont residency, while most ticket discounts are available to anyone regardless of their flatlander status.

Why not ski a new mountain this winter during a ticket discount day?

Ascutney Mountain ski ticket discount

Vermont and NH residents ski and ride for $27 on Sunday afternoons beginning at 12:30 p.m. All telemark skiers ride for $27 on Thursdays and all skiers get two-for-one tickets on Tuesdays during non-holiday weeks.

Bromley lift + lunch

Bromley has a lunch and lift special on many Tuesdays through the season. It's $39 for everyone.

Bolton Valley ticket discount

$39 skiing Monday - Wednesday, non-holiday, for everyone.

Burke Mountain discount

$41 Vermonter ticket every day but Saturday and not during holidays. Also Northeast Kingdom residents get lift ticket, rentals and lessons for just $15 on Sunday afternoons.

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, skiers who wear green pay $17 to ski at Mad River. On April 1, if you "act like a fool" at the ticket booth, you ski for half price.

Magic Mountain discount

List this under clever: Magic's Carpool Days. Load up the car on non-holiday Wednesdays with four to seven people and everyone skis or rides for $80 total.

Mount Snow deal

Kids Pay Their Age day on March 8. If your child is 13 years old their lift ticket price for the day is $13. Applies to children ages 6-1.

Okemo Mountain deals

Okemo has several discount days so you really need to visit their site to get all the details. They include Skier/Rider Appreciation Days on selected Thursdays. Upcoming dates are: March 12, 19 & 26 for $39; April 2, 9 & 16 for $29.

Vermont and New Hampshire residents ski on selected Wednesdays for $39 (half day after 12:30 for $25) and in April for $29. Proof of residency required. Upcoming dates are: Mar 11, 18 & 25 and April 1, 8 & 15.

Ladies' Day ticket on selected Tuesdays; canned food donation day on December 7 for $30; and free skiing with food donation on April 1 (no joke!).

Pico Family Sunday ski ticket discount

With the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket on Sunday, each accompanied child (6-12 years old) skis for $10. (Limit four children per paying adult).

Pico Vermonter Discount Days

Half price tickets are available when a Vermont state ID or license is presented on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Smugglers' Notch benefits

Buy lift tickets in advance at selected area ski shops and you'll save $12 per adult ticket (making it $50).

Drop your business card at the ticket booth on a non-holiday Monday and receive $15 off an adult full-day lift ticket.

On Fridays, Vermonters with proof of residency pay half-price for lift tickets (making it $31), group lessons, and rental equipment during non-holiday weeks. Vermonters also get a discount when they do the learn-to-ski package (Morse lifts; rentals; lesson). It's $59 instead of $99. And cheaper on second and third days.

Stowe Feb. 4 Woodchuck Day & St. Patrick's Day

Ski for $35 on Wednesday, February 4, or Tuesday, March 17, at Stowe.

Stowe's Vermont Foodbank Day

Stowe has this on their calendar for April 19 this year. No price is listed yet, but last year I skied for $20 when I brought in some canned goods for the food shelf.

Sugarbush lift ticket discount

Print out a coupon online for 2-for-1 lift tickets for Mt. Ellen (one of the resort's two peaks) for $50. Valid Monday to Thursday through March 29, excluding holiday periods.

Super Bowl Sunday lift ticket deals

I haven't used Liftopia.com before, but you can buy discounted tickets there to a few Vermont ski resorts for Super Bowl Sunday, February 1, when many people opt to watch TV instead of ski. The discounts available include: Jay Peak Resort, VT - $32.50; Bolton Valley, VT - $43.99; and Smugglers Notch, VT - $48.99.

School vacation deals

Vermonters Week Deal at Bolton Valley from February 23 - 27. Purchase an adult lift ticket and receive a free child's lift ticket.

At Stowe from February 23 - 27, Vermonters buy a 3-day adult or child lift ticket for $99. Must present valid Vermont ID.

At Sugarbush, put the kids in ski school for less: Buy one kid's group lesson at Lincoln Peak February 23 - 27 and receive a second free lesson of the same value on the same day. Reservations required.

If you are a Vermonter, don't forget to bring your Vermont ID to the ticket window! And everyone should call or check the ski area's Web site for ALL THE FINE PRINT before you go.

Other ski discount programs in Vermont:

Ski and Ride with the Point

A terrific area radio station, <link http: www.pointfm.com skiandride index.php external-link-new-window>The Point, coordinates this program. You buy a button and coupon book for a few bucks then present them on Fridays at the ski resort du jour to get half-price skiing.

Catamount Trail Association skiing coupon book

As a benefit of becoming a member of Vermont's <link http: www.catamounttrail.org involved membership membershipbenefits external-link-new-window>Catamount Trail Association, you get a coupon book with half-off or two-for-one skiing at a number of Vermont ski resorts and nordic centers (and retailers, too). You can't go wrong for a $35 membership.

Vermont Travel Club Card

I hadn't heard about this in previous seasons. Apparently you buy this <link https: glssl.com classicskitours vermonttravel.asp external-link-new-window>card for $35 and you get discounts at selected ski areas, including a non-peak, non-Saturday ticket for $55 at Stowe and a $46 ticket at Mt. Snow, and discounts at restaurants and hotels.

American Lung Association of New England Ski & Ride Card

For $49 you get a bunch of <link http: www.lungvt.org external-link-new-window>two-for-one deals and discounted tickets at a variety of resorts including Cochran's Ski Area, Middlebury Snow Bowl, Jay Peak and Okemo Nordic Center.

Children's Hospital at Dartmouth Ride and Ski New England Card

Vermont and NH ski areas are part of this <link http: www.rideandskine.com htmls chad.html external-link-new-window>ski discount card that costs $29. Some of the deals: $20 midweek and $40 weekend skiing at Magic Mountain; $30 early-midweek and $45 tickets at Bolton Valley; and two-for-one lift tickets at Ascutney.

Otter Creek Brewing skiing coupons for Bolton, Bromley, Jay Peak and Mad River

The Skimeister and I enjoy Vermont-made brews, so we were extra pleased to find a skiing coupon in our 12-bottle box of Otter Creek. Score! You fill out the coupon and you can ski two-for-one during the midweek. There are a few excluded dates, such as Martin Luther King day and February 16-20. Cheers!

And for those who live near the New Hampshire border...

Dartmouth Skiway Weekender - Ski two consecutive weekend or holiday days for $65 for adults, $50 for teens and $40 for children ages 6-12.

Whaleback Four Pack - Buy 3 weekend full day tickets at the adult price and get the 4th free. These tickets are valid for the whole season. They can be used all at once or spread out over several weeks. Also ski Sundays 9 a.m. - noon for $15.
