Soft turns on a sunny day in May

— Backcountry skiing, Bolton Valley

Knowing that we're heading into a sunny, warm weather pattern, we figured we better get some more skiing in before the snow is gone. It is May, after all!

We skinned up the trails at Bolton Valley, Vermont, under the bright sun. A breeze kept us cool as we ascended. After enjoying the view, we took our time heading down and making swishy turns on the corn snow. The snow coverage took a big hit this week, but where there was snow it was often more than a foot deep.

We had to navigate around melted-out sections of the trails. We only had to take our skis off in one location where there was no way around the dirt and grass.

Hiking and biking season will start soon. But it sure was nice to do some skiing in Vermont in May!

Enjoying some fluffy new snow in northern Vermont

So grateful for new snow! At higher elevations in northern Vermont, we've seen quite a bit of fluffy new snow in the last couple of days. Above 1600 feet or so there's often a decent, frozen base, as…
