Powder on National at Stowe, Vermont, this morning.

Fun in the fresh snow.

A look over to the gondola area and the "chin" on Mt. Mansfield.

Powder turns on the Front Four.

Looking up the Fourrunner Quad at Stowe, Vermont.

What a sweet surprise to ski in some powder this morning! We knew there was a chance for a little snow falling in the early morning hours, but we weren't expecting up to five inches on the upper mountain at Stowe Mountain Resort.

After a foggy warm-up run on a rough groomed trail off the gondola, we spent the rest of the morning on the ungroomed expert trails off the Fourrunner Quad. They were really good in the morning! We skied through snowy bumps and powder on National and Liftline. It was such fun that we did a few laps. Later we moved over to the expert runs Centerline and Hayride.

The sun came out in the morning — also a surprise to see it so early in the day — and it just added to the nice conditions.

Later we enjoyed packed powder turns on the flatter areas of the expert trails and on the intermediate Sunrise and Lord. Although around midday, these intermediate trails were teeming with young skiers skiing straight down. Time to move on!

We rounded out our day with a challenging run on Nosedive (found a few nice turns on the edge of the trail) and another bump run on Liftline. We finished up on Gondolier, which had a variety of conditions in the afternoon as we descended: from firm and wintry at the top to deep corn snow at the bottom.

With beers in hand in the Midway Lodge, we were tired and happy. A great way to spend a Friday, eh?
