Telemark turns today at Bolton Valley

— Bolton Valley, Alpine / downhill skiing

Enjoying the fresh snow under the Wilderness Lift.

Snowy mountain view.

A busy bunny slope.

Tele turns right, tele turns left. My telemark gear and I had a nice day on the slopes at Bolton Valley today.

They have two chairlifts (the Vista Quad to the top and the Mid-Mountain Lift) and the Mitey Mite tow open. The place was hoppin' with families and kids and people grabbing whatever powder they could find.

Earlier in the day I found a couple of inches of fluffy stuff on the sides of the trail and on less-traveled trails such as Glades. Later I was cutting way off to the skier's right to enjoy the powder that was still available to play in under the Wilderness Lift. That lift's not open yet.

A ski patroller told me that in some places the coverage was good, while other places were sketchy in that area of the mountain. He also mentioned that he skied Vista Glades and he was hitting stuff here and there under the powder. I decided to wait for more of a base to ski that run, which is one of my favorites at Bolton.

It was the first day out of my tele gear this season and I was pleased that I didn't wipe out, but came darn close a couple of times! The toughest part was skiing on the small "death cookies" that were at the very top of the Alta Vista trail. I just kept picking up speed. Luckily that was a short stretch and the rest of the run from the summit was packed powder.

I'd say our conditions are quite good for this early in the season. Now to decide what gear I'll dust off next...
