Cross-country skiing in the snowy woods at Catamount Outdoor Center

We got out on our skinny skis on Saturday before the rain started in the Champlain Valley.

And it was lovely!

There were a lot of animal tracks. We think this was a fox.

We had some nice snowfall on Friday, so the plan was to hit the cross-country trails on Saturday. But the weather was going to be weird in lower elevations. The forecast called for mixed precipitation and rain. We had to motivate.

We put down our coffee cups and got out for a ski before the rain started. And it was quite good!

At Catamount Outdoor Center in Williston, Vermont, we did a big loop through the woods. When we were under the cover of the trees, the snow was powdery and sometimes sticky. When we left the woods, we skied through a thin crust of snow. Clearly it had rained a bit sometime overnight.

But the trees were laden with snow and the coverage was quite good for December in the Champlain Valley!

We're looking forward to more snowy skiing on this holiday weekend!
