Holy powder, Batman!

— Backcountry skiing, Bolton Valley

This morning I came across some northern Vermont snow reports touting between 4 and 12 inches of new snow overnight. I looked outside my window and only saw 1 or 2 inches and I had to double check what I read. It became clear to me: I needed to go investigate this news by earning some turns!

After lunchtime I skinned up into the Bolton Valley backcountry trail network and noticed everything was whiter and the trail seemed higher than the last time I was here (more base!). I started poking my poles into the snow to the side of the packed ascent route and got excited. It was fluffy snow and there was a lot of it!

After taking off my skins I began to glide downhill and start to laugh. The snow was quite deep -- if I didn't have momentum it would stop me dead in my tracks as the powder piled up to my knees. What a nice overnight gift of eight or so inches of fresh pow, on top of an abundance of other recent snowfall!

I was dropping my knee into the powder and doing lazy turns down through the glades. Holy powder, Batman!

Have you gotten out in the snow this weekend? If so, how was it?
