I like to keep my eye on the weather — especially this time of year. We had that wonderful dump of snow last week. It was then followed by some rain. Looking ahead, we may see rain again on Thursday. What that says to me is you gotta get out and ski while we've got the snow!

I took Monday morning off to cross-country ski in the sunshine. I chose the well-groomed trails at Trapp Family Lodge cross-country center in Stowe, Vermont.

I noticed there was about an inch of fresh snow on the sides of the trails. Under that was a thin crust. Grooming is key when there's crusty snow, and the Pisten Bully did a great job today. I enjoyed great classic tracks everywhere I went.

I really appreciated the freshly groomed packed-powder when I was zooming down the hills on trails like Hare Line, Bobcat and the narrow Chute on the Haul Road.

Here a few shots from my sunny morning on snow!

Enjoying some fluffy new snow in northern Vermont

So grateful for new snow! At higher elevations in northern Vermont, we've seen quite a bit of fluffy new snow in the last couple of days. Above 1600 feet or so there's often a decent, frozen base, as…
